چکیده

In this work a blood pressure and heart rate variability estimation system is presented. Instead of merely using beat-to-beat time interval extracted from the electrocardiogram (ECG), it is also used finger photoplethysmography (PPG) and ballistocardiography (BCG) information to have three independent estimates of the heart rate variability. Since pulse arrival and transit times can be extracted considering the acquired physiological waves, its correlation to blood pressure (BP) enables to obtain an estimation of BP variability for a particular subject, both from PPG and BCG. Given that BCG is extremely susceptible to movement artefacts, the system also infers context-related information as BCG detects subject’s motion and posture.

Blood pressure and heart rate variabilities in normotensive and hypertensive human beings.

Blood pressure and heart rate variabilities were studied in 89 ambulant normotensive or essential hypertensive subjects in whom blood pressure was recorded intra-arterially for 24 hours (Oxford method) under standardized living conditions. Data were analyzed beat to beat by a computer to provide mean values of the 48 half hours of the 24-hour period. Variabilities were assessed by the standard ...

Prognostic significance of blood pressure and heart rate variabilities: the Ohasama study.

To investigate the association between cardiovascular mortality and short-term variabilities in blood pressure and heart rate, we performed a long-term prospective study of ambulatory blood pressure monitoring in Ohasama, Japan, starting in 1987. We obtained ambulatory blood pressure and heart rate in 1542 subjects >/=40 years of age. Blood pressure and heart rate variabilities were estimated a...

Quantitative ballistocardiography (Q-BCG) for measurement of cardiovascular dynamics.

In the seventies of the past century ballistocardiography had been thought to be obsolete in cardiology for impossibility of objective calibration. In the present work the quantitative ballistocardiography (Q-BCG) for measurement of systolic force (F) and minute cardiac force (MF) in sitting subject was described. The new principle of piezoelectric transducer enabled to register the force cause...

Role of GABAA receptors of bed nucleus stria terminalis in controlling of blood pressure and heart rate in rats

Introduction: The Bed nucleus stria terminalis (BST) is a part of the limbic system. It was recently shown that chemical stimulation of the BST by L-glutamate elicited cardiovascular depressive responses. In the present study, we have investigated the possible cardiovascular role of the GABAergic receptors in BST by microinjection of its agonist and antagonists. Methods: Experiments were p...

A System for Continuous Estimating and Monitoring Cardiac Output via Arterial Waveform Analysis

Background: Cardiac output (CO) is the total volume of blood pumped by the heart per minute and is a function of heart rate and stroke volume. CO is one of the most important parameters for monitoring cardiac function, estimating global oxygen delivery and understanding the causes of high blood pressure. Hence, measuring CO has always been a matter of interest to researchers and clinicians. Sev...
